- question of the week - color of the week

Prism disperse light into components of different wavelength. This can be seen e.g. when sunlight is spread into rainbow colors when passed through a prism.

The physical reason of this phenomenon is that the air and glass have different refraction indices. Light of different wavelengths is refracted differently while passing through the prism, hence they are separated.

The same phenomenon can be seen in a grating. In the exhibition this phenomenon is illustrated by a grating.
